There was a new kid this year named *Alex. He wasn't like all the other guys: tough, manly, "Dude, sup man?". In fact, he was pretty feminine, well, at least he had a girly voice. People, right away, started making jokes about him, and how they thought he was secretly a girl. One teacher accidentally called him "she" and everyone laughed in his face. Alex used to smoke in his old school and tried to smoke with the cool kids at our school. All they had to say was, "He's trying too hard; he doesn't even know how to smoke a cigarette." (And they aren't trying too hard?) On Facebook there's a picture of him with his best friend, who happens to be a very pretty girl. Everyone is convinced that she's fake and it's him pretending to be her. In class one kid asked him, in front of everyone, whether he wore blush, then they all laughed at him. I had to be the bigger person and tell them that it wasn't funny and that it's bullying. It felt like it was the right thing to do, but it didn't make a difference. People are still extremely judgmental. It makes me wonder whether we may be worse than other schools. Maybe the fact that we are a private school is the reason why the kids here have such high standards and severe criticism. In the end, all i have to say is that i'm disappointed. I was the only one who gave Alex a chance, and i found out that he is a pretty awesome person.
I thought that bullying didn't occur in my school. Well, at least not as often and severely as in other schools. This year i realized that that wasn't true. I realized that my school was just like the other schools that we claim not to be like.
